General Position:

Note: approx. only. Do not use as an anchoring point on your GPS.

Shelter From:

Anchor either side of the town jetty in about 4 meters of water. One can also anchor behind the reefs just north of point Gawler. The anchorage can be approached either from the South of Wardang Island or through a channel that passes between Wardang Island, Rocky Island and Bird Point. The channel is as narrow as 20 m in places and great caution should be exercised. Eclipse Rock is a danger when approaching Port Victoria and is marked by a pole with a green triangle top mark that at the time of writing was unlit.

Some protection from the North can be obtained by tucking up into the North of the bay. In North West to South West winds it is best to move to the anchorage on the North of Wardang Island. there is a good anchorage to the NW of the old jetty.

Port Victoria is a charming town with good facilities. There is a small shop at the base of the jetty that is open 7 days a week and a pub across the road. Further up the main street is and larger store that also has hardware and is run by two keen yachties. It is a very easy place to get water as there is a town water tap in the picnic area right on the water’s edge in the little cove to the North of the jetty.
