Racing Information

The RSAYS offers members and members’ guests a wide choice of sailing and racing formats from which to choose.

Weekend Racing

Two Divisions of Keelboats race Saturdays and some Sundays over summer, and six times on Sundays during winter. Keen competition between the Squadron and the neighbouring Clubs doubles the size of the fleet, to provide excellent racing locally. The Offshore Racing Series provides a great training ground and practice for those intending to do a Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race or Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race..

Twilight Series

There are no spinnakers, but plenty of competition in and out of the Port River on Wednesday nights during daylight-saving months. It is a great introduction to racing and a way for skippers to entertain Corporate Sponsors, finishing with dinner and prize giving on the Squadron’s Quarterdeck to relive the excitement on the water.

Women’s Keelboat

The Women’s Keelboat Series offers competitive racing for women with abilities ranging from beginner to advanced. Races are conducted on Sundays on eight occasions during the summer season. The Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta is conducted annually in Melbourne and the Squadron is represented.

Sea Safety Instruction

Offshore racers are required to undertake a short theory and practical training course and to update regularly in order to qualify to race in offshore events. The Sea Safety and Survival Course (SSSC) required for Category 2 races and above is also run when there is interest. For further information on the above racing or training, please contact the Sailing Coordinator via email boating@rsays.com.au
